“REGIONAL AND LOCAL STATISTICS FOR MORE INFORMED POLICY MAKING”
JUNE 5 – 6, 2024 – BRUSSELS, BELGIUM
The Standing Committee of Regional and Urban Statistics (SCORUS) of the International Association for Official Statistics (IAOS), the Directorate General on Regional and Urban Policy and Eurostat kindly invites the statistical community to present abstracts for the conference addressing the following themes:
1. Regional competitiveness, sustainability and resilience
• Measuring economic performance
• Indicators on innovation, infrastructure, and connectivity
• Indicators on labour market (slack, shortages, talent, skills etc.)
• Social inclusion
• Indicators on demography (migration, aging, depopulation, etc.)
• Measuring vulnerability and at local and regional level (economic, environmental, social)
2. Comparative urban analysis
• Quality of life in cities
• Public transportation
• Environmental sustainability in urban areas • Housing (affordability, quality, sustainability)
3. Territorial classifications for statistical purposes
• Classify space along the urban-rural continuum
• How we define functional geographies
4. Innovative methods and data sources
• Innovative methods to improve regional and local level statistics
• Use of Artificial Intelligence
• Use of Earth Observation
• Alternative data sources
5. Communication of regional and local level statistics
• How to make regional statistics relevant and usable for all stakeholders
• Sharing experience on how to communicate regional and local statistics
• Use of innovative channels (social media, etc.)
• Data visualisations (statistical maps, story maps)
6. Cross border statistics
• Cross border cities
• Collecting data on cross border commuting
• Indicators on cross border collaboration
